Champagne and mud

Ann leads the ceremonySaturday was to be a busy day for us this week...

First of all Steve and Claire had invited us to baby Leia's naming celebrations, where as part of the occasion we were asked to bring some spring bulbs to plant for Leia in her own little garden.

Before the planting could begin, we gathered inside for a short ceremony which Leia slept through!

With us keen to show our green-fingered skills in the garden, we'd committed the cardinal sin of underestimating the dress code for the occasion. So as all the other guests looked very sophisticated, we turned up kitted out for an afternoon's gardening - and the embarrasment took a while to wear off!

Muddy boots on the patioOnce the formalities were out of the way, there was plenty of time for the guests to plant their bulbs or trees, and with us dressed for the part, we had to show some willing and get stuck in straight away. Our wellies were definitely needed as the soil was basically mud after all the rain over the last few weeks. So we'll just have to hope that the daffodils we planted are strong enough to grow.

Although the other guests were better dressed than us, those that hadn't brought wellies with them were faced with a challenge or two in the garden. Most had thought this through though, and the patio quickly filled with a collection of muddy boots, of all shapes, colours and sizes.

Stewart was in charge of the food and did a great job with the ham, beef and salmon as well as Ann's home made sausage rolls. With our work done, we could relax a little amongst our friends, although I had one final task to complete - a group photo for Leia and Mum & Dad, plus godparents:

Our day wasn't done though, we had another party in the evening to celebrate a 40th birthday party for one of our work colleagues. At least this time we dressed appropriately!
