Swollen Ribble

Although the weather isn't great at the moment, it was forecast to stay dry this afternoon so we decided we ought to stretch our legs and go for a walk. It's only a few weeks off our next holiday, when we'll be walking in the Lakes, so we need to get some practice in.

The Ribble in spate at Brungerley Bridge near WaddingtonWaddington village is an idyllic spot, one of the jewels in the Ribble Valley, and on a fine summers day the brook babbling through the centre of the village together with the gardens make a very picturesque scene. Today the vista was a little less impressive due to the cloud cover, but it was still a good spot for walking.

Crossing the Ribble over Brungerley Bridge, it was clear to see how much rainfall we've ben having over the past few weeks - the river was much wider than normal and a good couple of feet higher too.

Carved tree trunk on the Ribble Way near WaddingtonOur walk took us along the riverside path, which was close to being flooded in places. Along this stretch of the Ribble Way are a number of wood carvings and sculptures, each a work of art, and they make a decent photo too.
